The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast widespread thunderstorms and intermittent rainfall across several parts of the country for Wednesday, 3 September 2025, urging citizens to exercise caution during severe weather events.

Our correspondent gathered from NiMet’s Tuesday bulletin that northern states such as Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa will experience thunderstorms with light rain in the morning, while Jigawa, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi should brace for thunderstorms with moderate rainfall later in the day.

Central states including Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Benue, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are expected to witness early morning thunderstorms with light rain, giving way to more widespread, moderate rainfall in Nasarawa, Benue, Niger, Plateau, Kogi, Kwara, and the FCT by afternoon and evening.

In the South, cloudy conditions are anticipated over Imo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom in the morning, with intermittent light rain likely later over Ondo, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Osun, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Bayelsa.

NiMet advised residents to remain alert as strong winds could reduce visibility, create slippery road conditions, and disrupt outdoor activities.

Communities in flood-prone areas were urged to prepare for potential flooding.
