Real Madrid Boss Alonso May Keep Vinicius Jr on Bench Despite Heroics
Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has suggested that Brazil forward Vinicius Jr may continue in a substitute role, despite his game-changing performance in last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Real Oviedo.
Vinicius was left out of the starting XI, with Rodrygo preferred on the left wing. Coming off the bench, he scored and provided an assist.
Yet, Alonso indicated that the 25-year-old’s impact role might be maintained.
“I’m very happy with Vini. Against Oviedo, he showed he can have a big impact off the bench,” Alonso said ahead of Saturday’s clash with Mallorca.
“In a locker room, the key is that everyone is willing to contribute, whether on the pitch or off.”
TIMES OF NIGERIA understands that Vinicius’s omission comes amid ongoing contract tensions, while some pundits, including club legend Pedja Mijatovic, have argued that Madrid should consider selling him.
It remains unclear whether Alonso will restore him to the starting XI on Saturday, with Madrid seeking a third straight league win before the international break.
