The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across large parts of the country on Tuesday, warning of possible flooding in some northern states.

According to the weather outlook issued on Monday, heavy rains are expected in Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Kaduna, and Taraba during the morning hours, with thunderstorms continuing across most northern regions into the evening.

NiMet cautioned that Borno, Jigawa, and Yobe face heightened risks of flooding.

In the central region, cloudy conditions will dominate the morning, followed by moderate rains in parts of Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Plateau, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Meanwhile, residents in the southern states should expect cloudy skies and light rain in the morning, with intermittent rainfall across the region later in the day.

TIMES OF NIGERIA gathered from NiMet’s advisory that residents in flood-prone areas should take precautions, while emergency services and local authorities have been urged to remain on high alert.
