A tragic incident has left the farming community of Kukurpu village, Kwajaffa District, in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State, in mourning after four children from the same family were confirmed dead while their parents remain hospitalised following a mysterious illness.

Our correspondent understands from the Zagazola Makama X handle that the incident occurred on Thursday morning, when neighbours raised concern after several calls to the head of the family, 35-year-old Muktari Idrisa, went unanswered.

A neighbour, Bukar Musa, eventually managed to contact Idrisa’s wife, Maimuna, who revealed that everyone in the house was gravely ill and unable to move.

Neighbours rushed to the residence and found Idrisa, his wife, and their four children lying unconscious.

The children were identified as Idrisa Muktari, Hauwa Muktari (9), Binta Muktari (6), and Saidu Muktari (1).

Security personnel and medical experts swiftly responded, but doctors at the hospital confirmed all four children were dead on arrival, while the parents were admitted and are said to be responding to treatment.

The children’s bodies were deposited at the hospital mortuary before being released to relatives for burial in line with Islamic rites.

Authorities say the cause of the tragedy is yet to be determined.

However, police confirm that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Maiduguri has launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The shocking development has thrown the quiet village of Kukurpu of Borno into deep mourning, with residents struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of four young lives from a single household.
