Former Zamfara Central senator, Kabiru Marafa, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the ruling party of marginalising his state and abandoning its founding principles.
TIMES OF NIGERIA gathered that Marafa’s exit was announced in a communiqué issued on Friday by the Senator Kabiru Marafa Consultative Forum, after a two-day meeting in Kaduna.
The statement, signed by Chairman Bashir Marafa, Secretary Mannir Tsafe, and seven others, confirmed that the entire Marafa political structure in Zamfara had also pulled out of the APC.
An aide to the former lawmaker, who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES on condition of anonymity, said: “Despite everything he did to secure Tinubu’s victory in Zamfara, he was left out of this government… the thing is that he has left the party.”
The communiqué cited “sustained injustice, mistrust, marginalisation, and deliberate neglect of Zamfara State and its people” as reasons for the defection.
It also accused President Bola Tinubu and APC leadership of selective treatment of party members in Zamfara.
The group alleged that insecurity in the state had been politicised, pointing to the Kaura Namoda House of Assembly by-election, where security forces were deployed to secure APC’s victory but not to protect villagers who had suffered deadly attacks.
The statement concluded that Marafa’s next political direction would be announced “in due course” in line with the collective interest of Zamfara people.
