The Ebonyi State Government has increased the minimum wage of its civil and public servants to ₦90,000, while neighbouring Imo State has raised its own to ₦104,000.
The decision in Ebonyi followed an Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the New Government House in Abakaliki.
Commissioner for Information, Ikeuwa Collins-Omebeh, said in a statement that the wage rise was in line with Governor Francis Nwifuru’s “People’s Charter of Needs Agenda,” aimed at prioritising workers’ welfare.
The state also approved the establishment of a Virology Research and Innovation Centre to strengthen capacity for research, surveillance, and diagnosis of viral diseases.
In Imo, Governor Hope Uzodimma announced the new ₦104,000 minimum wage after a meeting with labour leaders at the Government House in Owerri.
TIMES OF NIGERIA understands that the increases come barely a year after President Bola Tinubu signed the Minimum Wage Bill into law, raising the national benchmark from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000.
Several state governments, however, have since gone above the federal threshold.
