‘Arrest the slaughter’: ADC demands Tinubu declare emergency as killings mount in Katsina and Zamfara

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Sunday delivered a blistering condemnation of the recent massacres in northern Nigeria, demanding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu “stop ‘jet-setting across the world’ and urgently declare a State of Emergency in the affected states.”

In a strongly worded press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the Malumfashi slaughter as proof of a “total collapse of our national security architecture” and linked the attacks to a wave of violence that it says has killed more than 140 people in Katsina and Zamfara in two months.

The ADC accused the President of failing to show public remorse or to reassure citizens, and singled out the ruling and main opposition parties for political callousness in the face of mass murder.

Quoting directly from the party’s statement, the ADC said: “The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is deeply outraged and concerned by the recent massacre in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, where 30 worshippers were shot dead in a mosque during dawn prayers, and 20 villagers were burned alive in their homes.”

The statement continued: “It is disheartening to note that instead of confronting these urgent national tragedies with the seriousness that they demand, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to jet-set across the world, chasing photo-ops, while his people are dying in dozens at home. We wish to remind Mr. President that diplomacy abroad is meaningless if safety and security at home cannot be guaranteed.”

The ADC concluded by calling for “an immediate declaration of a State of Emergency in Katsina and Zamfara States” and for a “total re-evaluation of Nigeria’s national security architecture,” with Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi signing off as National Publicity Secretary, African Democratic Congress (ADC).
