Tens of Thousands Rally in Auckland Demanding Sanctions on Israel

Tens of thousands of demonstrators marched through central Auckland on Saturday in New Zealand’s largest pro-Palestinian rally since Israel’s war on Gaza began.

Our correspondent gathered from Radio New Zealand that organisers, Aotearoa for Palestine, estimated 50,000 participants at the March for Humanity rally, though police put the number closer to 20,000.

The demonstrators carried Palestinian flags and placards with slogans such as “Don’t normalise genocide” and “Grow a spine, stand with Palestine.”

Organisers called on New Zealand’s centre-right coalition government to impose sanctions on Israel.
