NiMet Issues Nationwide Thunderstorm and Rain Advisory for Friday

Residents across Nigeria have been urged to brace for a day of thunderstorms, rains, and possible disruptions, as the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) released its daily weather outlook valid for Friday, 5 September 2025.

Our correspondent gathered from NiMet that northern states, including Taraba, Jigawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina, are expected to experience thunderstorms with light rains in the morning.

By afternoon and evening, moderate rainfall is anticipated over Sokoto, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kaduna, Taraba, Borno, and Adamawa.

In the central belt, light rains are forecast over Plateau and Benue in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and rains later in the day across Nasarawa, Benue, Niger, Plateau, Kogi, Kwara, and the Federal Capital Territory.

Southern states will see cloudy conditions early in Cross River, with intermittent light rains later over Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa.

NiMet advised residents to exercise caution.

“Strong winds may accompany rain, leading to reduced visibility, slippery roads, and disruption of outdoor activities. Communities in flood-prone areas should remain alert,” the agency warned.
