The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has recorded a significant political gain after 792 women from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) defected to the APC in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.
Our correspondent gathered that thousands of residents attended the defection ceremony, which organisers described as a historic moment for both the party and the people of the area.
Speaking on behalf of the Office of the First Lady of Jigawa State, Her Excellency Hajiya Amina Umar Namadi, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Hon. Ado Maje Saleh (Rtd.), expressed deep gratitude to the citizens who turned out in large numbers to witness the event and to the women who joined the APC.
According to him, His Excellency Governor Malam Umar Namadi has demonstrated competence, integrity, and a commitment to leading the APC as a platform for community development, a factor that has continued to strengthen the party’s popularity across the state.
“Our governor is working tirelessly to ensure Jigawa State progresses in every sector. We are grateful to him, and we pledge our continued support for his political journey,” Hon. Ado stated.
He also paid tribute to the governor’s wife, Her Excellency Hajiya Amina Umar Namadi, praising her dedication, compassion, and unifying leadership, particularly in mobilising women and youths in the state.
The committee extended appreciation to key political stakeholders present at the event, including the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bala Ibrahim; the Chairman of Birnin Kudu Local Government, Dr Builder Muhammad Uba; the APC Zonal Chairman, Malam Yahaya Ahali Sakwaya; the APC Chairman of Birnin Kudu; the APC Women Leader of Birnin Kudu; the wife of the Speaker, Jigawa State House of Assembly; the wife of the Secretary to the State Government; the wife of the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry; and Dr Hauwa Mustapha Babura, Special Adviser to the Governor on Basic Education.
Hon. Ado Maje further commended men and women at various levels who contributed to the success of the defection ceremony.
He called on other citizens of Jigawa who are yet to join the APC to consider the benefits of community development by aligning with the ruling party.
“Our doors remain wide open to every well-meaning citizen who wishes to contribute to Jigawa’s progress. We invite all to join us as we move forward together,” he added.
The mass defection is being viewed as a major boost for the ruling APC in Jigawa, particularly at a time when political observers continue to monitor the evolving landscape of the state.
