The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested several suspects in connection with drug trafficking, motorcycle theft, burglary, and related offences across different local government areas of the state.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, said valuable items including two motorcycles, illicit drugs, jewellery, and cash were recovered during the operations.
Burglary and Theft
On 9th September, a patrol team attached to Yalwawa Division arrested eight suspected thieves aged between 11 and 17 years, following a complaint lodged by a resident.
The suspects, identified as Mubarak Musa (16), Abdulkadir Abubakar (17), Aliyu Isah (17), Adamu Usman (15), Benedict Joseph (14), Lucky Yuguda (15), Abubakar Idris (13), and Abdulwahab Idris (11), all of Yalwawa and Sabuwar Takur in Dutse LGA, allegedly confessed to the crime during investigation.
Drug Raids
Between 8th and 12th September, raids conducted in Taura, Gwaram, Gujungu, and Babura led to the arrest of seven suspects found in possession of large quantities of illicit substances.
Recovered exhibits included 34 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, 1,500 tablets of Diazepam (D5), 960 tablets of Exol, 76 bottles of rubber solution, 19 bottles of “suck and die,” 13 tablets of tramadol, six capsules of Prega lump, and ₦12,100 cash.
The suspects, aged between 14 and 29, reportedly confessed to being drug dealers operating across Jigawa and neighbouring LGAs.
Motorcycle Theft
On 7th September, police operatives in Hadejia arrested one Haruna Garba, 28, of Birniwa LGA, while in possession of a white Hajour UD motorcycle worth ₦750,000, suspected to have been stolen.
One Muhammad Sani of Emir Palace, Hadejia, later identified the motorcycle as his property. The suspect has been charged in court.
Similarly, on 6th September, a resident of Ringim reported the theft of his red Boxer motorcycle.
Police surveillance led to its interception in Zakirai, Kano State, where two suspects, Auwalu Adamu (25) and Audu Ilu (23), were arrested.
Further investigation resulted in the arrest of two accomplices, Mustapha Yunusa and Sani Abubakar, described as notorious motorcycle thieves recently released from a correctional facility.
SP Adam confirmed that investigations are ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse, after which the suspects will be prosecuted.
