792 Jigawa women dump PDP, join APC in Birnin Kudu, Defectors pledge support ahead of 2027 polls

About 792 women have abandoned the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State.

Our correspondent gathered that the defectors were officially received in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area by the wife of the governor, Amina Umar Namadi, in a ceremony that attracted party faithful and government officials.

Mrs Namadi described the mass defection as a clear testimony to Governor Umar Namadi’s style of leadership and his administration’s commitment to improving the lives of citizens, particularly women and youths.

She congratulated the new members, assuring them that APC’s doors remain open to all well-meaning individuals who wish to join the movement for Jigawa’s development.

Also speaking, the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, reaffirmed the administration’s focus on grassroots development.

He noted that since inception, the Namadi-led government had rolled out numerous programmes and policies aimed at improving citizens’ welfare.

According to him: “The present administration has excelled among its counterparts in delivering the dividends of democracy to its citizens.”

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Amina Waina explained that their decision to join APC was influenced by the government’s evident support for women.

She added that the defectors would work tirelessly to mobilise women ahead of the 2027 general election to consolidate APC’s strength in the state.
