Top military chiefs from across Africa are meeting in Abuja to discuss the continent’s growing security challenges.

The three-day summit, which began on Monday, 25 August 2025, is the first of its kind and is focused on four key strategies: modern counter-terrorism measures, joint peacekeeping efforts, private sector participation in security, and African-led solutions without foreign interference.

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, said the theme, “Combating Emerging Security Threats in Africa through Military Cooperation”, was timely.

“This conference provides a platform to strengthen unity, build trust and chart new strategies for Africa’s stability,” he noted.

Delegates from Ghana, Chad, Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Niger, Gambia and Cameroon are in attendance.

Our correspondent reports that participants stressed the need for African nations to act collectively against terrorism, piracy, transnational crime, and the growing impact of climate change.
