Jackie Wayas, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, used her official X handle on Sunday to announce an ambitious equality pledge that will put the party firmly in the headlines, writing: “Breaking‼ ADC pledges 50% of positions to youths, women.”

The message, posted as the ADC seeks to broaden its appeal, was accompanied by a direct appeal to female Nigerians to take up party membership and play a more decisive role in national life.

In typically upbeat tones she argued that inclusion is not tokenism but a route to progress, framing the move as a practical effort to reshape political culture rather than a headline-grabbing slogan.

Wayas went on to underline the moral case for parity by stressing the role women and young people must play in shaping the country, writing: “As women, our voices are vital in shaping Nigeria’s future.

True progress comes when women and youth have equal seats at the decision-making table.”

She framed the ADC’s promise as transformational, saying bluntly: “Any political platform that commits to 50% representation for women and youth is offering a real game changer.”

The deputy publicity secretary concluded with a call to action – “I encourage Nigerian women of all ages to become members of the ADC. Let’s step forward with determination, our country needs you” – a rallying cry designed to turn pledge into membership and momentum.
