The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has disowned a statement circulating on social media which falsely claimed its Youth Wing condemned former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.

TIMES OF NIGERIA gathered from a statement signed by Jackie Wayas, ADC’s Deputy Publicity Secretary, that the publication was “the work of impostors and political detractors” attempting to tarnish the party’s image.

“The statement did not emanate from the ADC nor its Youth Wing,” Wayas clarified.

“Our party, rooted in integrity and democratic values, does not engage in smear campaigns or falsehoods against respected leaders such as Mr Obi.”

The ADC urged the public to disregard the “fake publication in its entirety” and warned those behind the forgery to desist from impersonating party structures.

“The African Democratic Congress remains committed to issue-based politics, democratic tolerance and responsible communication,” the statement added.

The party also threatened legal action against those it accused of spreading malicious misinformation.
