NiMet predicts thunderstorms, moderate rains across Nigeria on Sunday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in several parts of the country on Sunday, 14th September 2025, warning residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant.

According to the daily weather outlook issued on Saturday, NiMet said northern states, including Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Adamawa, and Taraba would experience isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains in the morning.

Our correspondent gathered that thunderstorms are also anticipated later in the afternoon and evening in Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Borno, and Katsina States.

For the central region, NiMet projected cloudy skies with sunshine intervals in the morning, alongside chances of moderate rains in parts of Niger, Kogi, and Benue.

The afternoon and evening are expected to bring isolated thunderstorms across most parts of the region.

In the south, residents of Abia, Ebonyi, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River should expect a cloudy morning with chances of rainfall.

NiMet added that moderate rains are anticipated across most parts of the southern region later in the day.

The agency advised Nigerians to take necessary precautions, noting that thunderstorms may cause temporary disruption of outdoor activities.

Motorists were urged to drive carefully during rainfall to avoid accidents caused by reduced visibility and slippery roads.

NiMet further cautioned communities in flood-prone areas to remain alert, citing the risk of flash floods in affected regions.
