NiMet Warns of Thunderstorms, Possible Flooding Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather outlook for Saturday, 13 September 2025, predicting widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across all regions of the country.

According to the advisory, which was released on Friday, our correspondent gathered from NiMet that parts of the North, Central, and Southern states will experience varying levels of rainfall throughout the day.

In the Northern states, thunderstorms with light rains are expected in the morning across Katsina, Kano, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Borno, and Taraba.

Later in the afternoon and evening, more thunderstorms are anticipated in Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, and Kebbi.

In the Central region, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are likely over the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Nasarawa, and Niger in the morning.

By afternoon and evening, NiMet forecasts storms across Niger, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and the FCT.

In the Southern states, light to moderate rains are expected in the morning in Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Edo, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

More intense thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are predicted in the afternoon and evening for Imo, Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

NiMet further cautioned that risks of flooding remain high in Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.

The agency advised residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant, while motorists and travellers were urged to exercise caution due to possible flash floods and reduced visibility during thunderstorms.
